Two internationally renowned VJ collectives staged shows: Artificial Eyes and Addictive TV. Apart from organising the well-known British Optronica festival of cinema and music, the latter were also elected by “DJ Mag” as the second best VJs in the world. Likewise from England, BodyDataSpace concluded the Festival in a unique set about corporal expressions and eroticism with three-dimensional projections accompanied by a DJ set from Ballet Mecânico. Integrated into this thematic cycle, Rui Miguel Abreu (PT) with the Portuguese DJ and VJ duo Deubreka, performed an audio and visual remix of the cult film “Tron”. In another film-concert, Hipnótica reinvented the sound track of “The Fall of the House of Usher”, a film made by Jean Epstein and Luis Buñuel in 1928.
Cinema, “Made in London” is the cycle highlighted in this edition of the Festival. The programme include a historical retrospective as well as a sampling of this year’s edition of the London Artists’ Film and Video Awards (LAFVA) and, in the field of animation, of Animate! and Blink. In a singular opportunity, about a dozen independent British movies were screened, all of which have been selected for this exhibition by the well-known Vertigo magazine. Alongside this cycle of cinema from London, the Japan Media Arts Festival is our international festival invitee and Avanca – The International Meetings on Cinema, Television, Video and Multimedia is our national festival invitee.
